Fuenf: You Can’t Go Wrong With Monochrome

Fuenf

If you just dove into that roofless vortex the streetwear business is, your first moment of zen would probably be realizing it’s not limited with just your usual jeans, hats and tees. It might look like they are the backbone of the whole urban branch, but the reality is simpler than it seems: this is what you wear on the daily basis just because it really doesn’t take too much of an effort. I mean you can’t possibly go wrong with jeans, tees, hats and sneakers, they’re everywhere because they’re easy and comfy in the first place, but if at some point you become interested in expressing yourself more and still stay within your urban-inspired style, you might look around for a special clothing brand. A brand that tries to experiment, widen the limits and express the real big city vibe… spiritually, visually and even geometrically…

It’s like a bioengineering-born cold and futuristic monstrosity made of stone, concrete and glass making its enormous tentacles dance in front of your face and trying to hypnotize you with some sort of a soporific and grievous geometric eternity. It’s both fascinating and disturbing, as only your first impression of any huge metropolis can be.

The story has started with a Russian student Ekaterina Zdanowicz-Musina whose initial goal was actually to become a lawyer, but – as it usually happens – in 2011 she suddenly found her real passion in the clothing design and ended up studying it at the British Higher School of Art and Design in Moscow. Being in pursuit of her dream Ekaterina moved to Berlin, Germany and finally in 2017 graduated from the University of Applied Science with the proper Fashion Design diploma. Her own clothing brand named Fuenf was founded a year before that, in 2016 and of course Ekaterina was not only its founder but also the chief designer responsible for the brand’s main vision. And this vision was exactly the factor that made Fuenf unique and different for many other European urban clothing brands…

Fuenf has already released several collections and I’d say they did a great job taking care of a certain balance between setting their creativity free and also keeping in mind the fact they work for people. Many brands let themselves get taken away by their imagination and their burning craving for art and you kind of admire their work but also can’t really imagine someone would really wear it all :) Luckily it’s not the case here. Fuenf embraces some most prominent elements of deconstruction and avant-garde fashion while still keeping it highly appealing and wearable. When I look through the brand’s collections I see the spirit of a big modern city itself.

As you might already know my main interest lies always somewhere in the “is it wearable or just art?” area, so let’s get to it. I’m glad to say a lot of Fuenf creations are highly suitable for almost any life situation, regardless of whether it is a party or an office without a strict dress code. Such pieces as Futuristic White Midi Dress, High-Rise Midi Skirt with Fractal Print or Cotton-Blend Unisex Sweatshirt with Flex Print can surely enrich your wardrobe. As always when you deal with an original clothing design you have to have a certain state of mind and style to wear something like this, but if you’re into minimalistic future-influenced monochrome vibe, Fuenf can be your brand of choice.

Summing it all up, Fuenf is a very smart approach to what we’re used to call “futuristic clothing”, with lots of irregular shapes, fractal textures and deconstructive elements involved. The most of what saw looked pretty impressive and stylish, and the whole brand’s recent activity seems quite promising, especially for just a couple of years of existence! The price policy could happen to be a bummer for you since the Fuenf clothing isn’t cheap by any means, though… oh well nothing unique is cheap in this world.
